Families & individuals
A sensory room designed around your child, at home.
You have seen your child settle in their OT or therapy sessions, and you want that calm at home. We design the room around your child, so you can see it and cost it in full before you build a thing, and the plan is yours to build with anyone.
Three kinds of room we design for families
Every child is different, so we design the balance yours needs rather than a one-size room.
Calming & regulating
A low-arousal corner of the home where your child can settle when things get too much, with soft light, gentle sound and a clear, uncluttered layout.
Sensory-seeking
Space for the movement and input your child looks for, organised so it is safe and contained rather than spilling through the house.
A shared family space
A room siblings and parents can use too, designed so it works for your whole family and not just one moment of the day.
What a sensory room does for your child
A sensory room is a dedicated space that uses light, sound, texture and movement to help a child regulate: to calm down when they are overwhelmed, or to safely get the input they seek out. It is the same idea you have likely seen working in an OT clinic or a school sensory room. At home it gives your child somewhere that is theirs, set up for how they respond. The room only works when it is designed around your child, which is exactly what an independent design gives you.
Independent by design
Most of this market is built around selling equipment, with the design offered free as part of that. We work a little differently, and alongside it: because we design only and sell no equipment, the plan is written around your child, supplier-neutral, and yours to build with whoever you choose.
We design only and sell no equipment, so every element in the plan is there because it helps your child, not because it sells anything.
What you receive
A complete, costed design of your child's room. The thing that matters most for families: a room designed around your child that you can see and cost before you build it.
Photoreal renders
See the finished room around your child before you spend a penny, and know it is right for them, not a generic kit.
3D walkthrough
Understand how the space feels and flows, so you can picture your child using it before anything is built.
Layout & zoning plan
A safe, calm layout for the actual room you have at home, with space to move and nothing overwhelming or in the way.
Product specification
An itemised, supplier-neutral list you can buy from anywhere, so nothing is over-specified and you only pay for what helps.
Socket & services plan
Where power and fixings go, so the build is safe and right first time and you are not redoing it later.
A clear, costed plan
Every element listed with a cost, so you can build it all at once or one part at a time as your budget allows.
How we work
Considered, collaborative and led entirely by your child's needs.
- 01
Your child first
We start with your child: what calms them, what they seek out, what overwhelms them, and what you saw working in their OT sessions or at school.
- 02
Sensory goals
We agree what the room needs to do, whether that is helping your child wind down, giving safe space to move, or both.
- 03
Design and visualise
We design the room and bring it to life as renders and a walkthrough, so you can see it and tell us what feels right before anything is fixed.
- 04
Cost
Every element itemised and costed, supplier-neutral, so you can build it whole or in stages as you are able.
- 05
Proposal
A complete plan you can build with anyone, or take to a grant application if you are seeking funding.

Your questions, answered
Will a sensory room actually help my child?
It can, when it is built around your child rather than copied from a catalogue. We design to the same calming and regulating principles you will have seen in an OT or therapy setting: the right light, sound, texture and space for how your child responds. We are not clinicians and we do not make claims about outcomes, but we design so the room gives your child the kind of input that was already helping them.
Should I just do it myself?
Many families do, and a simple room can absolutely work. The reason a design helps is that it is easy to spend money on the wrong things: too much equipment, the wrong lighting, sound that agitates rather than soothes. We design the room first so you can see it, change it and cost it before you commit, and so the money you do spend goes on what actually helps your child.
What if I get it wrong?
That worry is exactly why we design before you build. Over-equipping, harsh lighting and the wrong sound are the most common mistakes, and they are easy to make when you are buying piece by piece. Seeing the whole room first, and adjusting it with us, takes that risk away before any money is spent.
Do I have to buy from you?
No. We design only and sell no equipment, so the specification is supplier-neutral. You buy each element from whichever supplier you choose, at the best price you can find. Because we have nothing to sell you beyond the design, the plan is written purely around your child, which is the point of working with an independent designer.
Can I build it a bit at a time?
Yes. Because every element is itemised and costed separately, you can build the room in one go or add to it as your budget allows. The design is yours to work through at your own pace.
Funding a sensory room at home
Families often draw on charitable grants such as Wooden Spoon, the National Lottery Community Fund, BBC Children in Need, the Disability Equipment Fund and supermarket community funds, and in some cases a Disabled Facilities Grant through your local council. Every route needs a clear, costed plan, which is what we give you, and because we sell nothing it stands as genuinely independent.
